Yeah, Russian won because they were the first one to use their own troops, which makes it politically impossible for us to use our troops. Russian planes are already there, if we start bombing ISIS or Assad in Syria, it will quickly lead to direct combat against russian planes, which would start WW3. It is eerily similar to how WW1 started.

I think Obama and the EU should have predicted what Putin would do and should have already had sanctions ready to go to prevent Russia from inserting their own planes. Now that Putin is in, there isn´t much that can be done. What I think is going to happens is the USA is just going to stop supporting the rebels, let Assad/Russia win, and then work with them to remove ISIS. At this point the priorities of the US and EU are to end the civil war so the refugees stop, defeat ISIS in Syria and Iraq, and they have already probably given up on toppling Assad. Saudi Arabia is interesting, because they care less about ISIS and the refugees, and more about toppling Assad.. I think they are going to try to keep the USA supporting the rebels.

Egypt killed us. What do you do when you help a country achieve a democracy, help them to finally have free elections.. and then they elect your enemy? The USA shouldn´t have helped overthrow the muslim brotherhood, instead they should have worked with them and ensured that fair elections kept being held. You can´t fight for democracy, and then help to overthrow a fairly elected President just because he isn´t the one you wanted to win. The process is more important than the process.

Recent events kept me away from the usual Fox, CNN, BBC and F24 TV news I usually watch, and surprise (for me) there is a partial cease fire in Syria. The map shows it to be mostly in western areas. The obvious question: how long before it craters? The decades old Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) -- http://sana.sy/en/ -- has a few stories on the cease fire event. Might as well go right to the local press service for starters. Check out the Syria Times -- http://syriatimes.sy -- newspaper too.
