Which investor do you follow for stock market advice and general financial info? I wrote an article today on hedge fund manager James Altucher. In the course of doing research I found that through research, investment professionals have found that Ken Fisher has the best financial information, the best financial analysis and the best track record of picking winning stocks, and generalized investment strategy.
I like to follow the moves of the top guys, and try to listen to and read any info they're willing to share via interviews, articles, books, etc. Icahn, Buffett, Dalio, Soros, Einhorn, Chanos, Ackman, Fisher, Paulson, et al. http://www.insidermonkey.com/ http://www.amazon.com/More-Money-Than-God-Relations/dp/0143119419 https://twitter.com/carl_c_icahn etc, etc.
My list is similar to JR... but you have to be careful about becoming the sheep that makes them the wolves. If you are a few days late, you will probably get into what they are recommending after the move. If they call something, and it hasn´t moved in awhile, then it is something to watch.. but just be careful about getting in after the move. A lot of people live and breath on everything these guys say, so usually their is a bump as soon as they say it, and you might be late to the party. I follow them for overall advice, not for picks.
I'm not sure whether I necessarily follow any one individual these days. I like to read the Financial Times' Lex column, though I rarely get the paper these days. I'll listen to the wisdom of Buffett, though won't ever be able to replicate his approach to investing. I used to read a bit of Kiplinger but haven't for a while. In other words, I don't really have a consistent approach and will quite happily pick and choose information and approaches that I come across. It kind of works for me. But I'm going to take a look at Ken Fisher - thanks for highlighting him.
I think it's important to look at the "top players" in any field you are into. You can learn a lot from them.
The thing you can really learn from the top investors is to pick companies that have excellent fundamentals. It really seems that cash is king when it comes to picking a single indicator because if a company is cash rich and can continue to generate good cash flow, keep debt low, and get good ROI, there is a very good chance of that company being around long term. That is essential for the success that the top investors have enjoyed. As far as who I follow, I would say no one and everyone at the same time because I read voraciously and indiscriminately from many different sources, but to try to follow one guru and replicate their success is an exercise in futility.
