For us in NA, following the markets opening around the world begins in the Far East. One way is to look at the global market Indicies on Bloomberg or the Bloomberg mobile app for phones/tablets. (I prefer the spp for ease of use.) At any given time, all one sees is a number.
Sometimes it is more interesting to look at a graph of an index over the course of the day. Trending markets and the effects of contagion can clearly be seen in the markets as they open first in the Far East and later in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
I don't find what the index represents as important as the change of the index value over time while the exchange is open.
This compilation below is a non-inclusive list of exchanges that have a daily index graph on the home page. (Not all exchanges offer graphs.) Given the current state of affairs the Chinese and Japan exchanges are of most interest to me. If these markets sneeze, European markets are sure to catch a cold.
Note that (1) some exchanges close for lunch and (2) some exchanges operate over the weekend and close a day or two in what would be considered our work week.
I have ordered the exchanges by their opening times expressed in Eastern Standard (winter) Time. See the end of this piece for comments on seasonal time shifting.

    Time Shifting and more
The shift to Daylight Savings (summer) Times may skew by an hour: (1) not all countries have seasonal time changes; (2) those countries shifting time in the southern hemisphere switch to the opposite "season"; the seasonal switch isn't on the same weekend, differing by a week; as NA and (4) areas of the USA stay in standard time.
If you have time conversion issues, I recommend using Time and Date to sort things out. Search by city and the resulting page will tell you (1) the time in that location, (2) whether DST is observed and (3) the difference in the number of hours between the city and your location.
Wikipedia has a complete full list of exvhanges, and a list of market opening and closing times for most of the major exchanges. I haven't checked the times for accuracy.
No doubt there may be some typos herein, and I may have slipped a cog on time conversions. Please post correction and additions to the thread.
    HTH. YMMV.

Looks like Monday, the 25th, trading may be OK. The TOPIX, Hang Seng and SZSE all recovered from an opening dip and now above Friday's close. Last week the Dow was up 640 pts. Problem is so goes oil, so goes the market. We shall see
