After reading an article that seemed to suggest that Amazon's stock is now the most expensive, I had a look around to find out if this was true. They couldn't have been further from the truth. Berkshire Hathaway Stock trades at $202,355. I wonder who buys this stock, Billionaire investors?
Amazon is very expensive relative to earnings (or lack thereof). Berkshire Hathaway earns LOTS of money and is relatively cheap. Sticker price is meaningless. http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/xnys/brk.a/quote.html I own some of the "B" shares: http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/xnys/brk.b/quote.html
Expensive in terms of price per share is a meaningless discussion. One has to evaluate "expensive" using value investing measures, ratios, et al. I usually first look at the PER, comparing it to an industry or sector average, but that's me.
