A woman who believed breatharianism lies starved to death as she attempted to live on a sunlight only diet. In Hong Kong ,breatharians [mostly women] believe they can lose weight fast and get lots of other health benefits if they "fed on the sun." This sun-eating for them involves staring at the sun for a number of minutes in the evenings. Starving yourself to lose weight certainly does work but believing anything else will most certainly lead you straight to the grave. http://www.nutriviral.com/woman-starved-to-death-trying-to-live-on-sunlight-alone/ At least three other deaths have been attributed to the pseudoscientific practice of breatharianism since prominent advocate Ellen Greve (AKA Jasmuheen) began touting “pranic nourishment” in the 1990s.
Not sure how many posts will be needed before I can post a link? A friend sent me "health NEWS" (paid for by sellers of snake oil and such). Cinamon oil. HIV, ED for men, diabetes... In the internet age, many people b e l i e v e stuff that's presented this way. He's from Vietnam and earlier wanted me to buy SALT. Just because some health guru was hyping the purest, marvellous salt found in Iceland. IMHO, it is very bad to overdose on sodium. It's hygroskopic (the body has issue getting rid of it, as it attracts water). Some people have been fooled into drinking urine Makes sense, huh? A waste product the body just got rid off... In medeaval times, bloodletting was the cure for most ailments
There are always silly people believing in all sorts of strange things. Not eating will definitely end up in you dying... that's just the facts. How someone believes that they can survive on sunlight... I don't know. Maybe they thought they can do photosynthesis.
When you hear about stories like that it's hard to think that people like this are just gullible and believe what they're told, because you'd think at some point, probably the point were she was starving to death, her basic instinct would kick in and shed do whatever it took to survive, no matter what she'd been told. The fact they didn't and she just...Well, died, makes me think she maybe wasn't quite alright to start off with, to try and out it politely.
It never ceases to amaze to what extent people will go to in order to lose weight. There are so many weight loss scams out there but yet no matter how ridiculous they are there are still those who will fall for it. Some people believe anything. I just sit here and shake my head because people really should know matter or at some point it should have clicked in that she needed food survive. Something definitely just wasn't right.
The combination of mental illness, cult religions and body dysmorphia is a lethal combination. I don't suggest that she suffers from this but it's the only logical thing my brain can come up with right now. These kinds of news make me sad for humanity. God bless her soul.
Oh wow! If I am not mistaken all civilizations throughout every breath that mankind has ever taken have needed food. How could anyone be convinced that they could live on only sunlight alone. It sounds like she was severely brainwashed or crazy. Even the ancient Egyptian drawings and caveman art depict people feasting on food. It is a very sad story and makes no sense to me.
I think the poor woman must have been ill too. Either that or severely brainwashed, as @Rosyrain says. A human can survive for a few weeks without food but will only last a few days without any water. Hopefully, she is free now.
It is always sad when seeing these kinds of news articles. Though I will say the breatharianism is spectacularly brainless even by the standards of weird belief systems. Of all the established science, the one about mammals having to consume food to survive is, eh-hem, pretty well established. What they should consume is a matter of debate, of course, but not consuming nutrients all has 100% fatality rate.
