MANDATORY voting is wrong, period. As would be MANDATORY voter registration... you can bet that some who registered but never vote would "vote" anyway.

And yes, I would agree that much of this comes from leftists and militants who are notorious for wanting to let non-citizens and even some non-living somehow end up casting votes for their candidate. :D

I think that it should not be mandatory, but if you do not vote, you have no right to complain about who is in charge.

I don't understand why this silly thread won"t die. As JR and I (and a few others?) have said, mandatory voting is not going to happen, ever. The liberal loons, socialists and dreamers fail to recognize there is something called the "Wishing" and "would like to see" and similar protestationsituations: wasted efforts. Not going to happen, period, end of story

Why not focus on the mission of this aptly named Bull Market Board and expend your efforts in growing your investments and making money?

I am not tied or loyal to a particular party, so my main reason for being willing to entertain required voting is because I find the current state sad for the Country and disrespectful to those who died for our freedoms. The tremendous amount of Americans who could vote but don't is disturbing to me. I used to be like that, but changed when I took my responsibilities as a citizen, and care about those who died, more seriously. My lack of participation was due to a lack of education and a lack of parents who voted or who taught anything about things like that. So I know changing education and culture is the key, but I fear that won't happen and that a law requiring citizens to participate might not be a bad thing. I would suggest a generic "I don't vote for anyone" option be available so people aren't forced to vote for a particular group or candidate. But at least they will be in the habit of getting out to vote and be involved in the process.

As a veteran and a constitutional-ist, I am all for the RIGHT of all citizens to vote. As a cynic who tends to see things in practical terms, there is also a part of me who believes that citizens should perhaps be required to take some sort of IQ or civics literacy test to be able to vote. Of course that's not something that will ever happen. :D

So I've been doing some more thinking, and I think that the best way that voting could be done in this country is this. When it comes to voting for the general election, there is no registration required, every American citizen is automatically eligible for voting between the major candidates (as long as they can show a few points of identification) this allows the people who don't want to vote the freedom to do so, and the people who do want to vote a quick way in without the hassle of registering (people tend to switch parties the most during generals the most anyway so registration isn't that big of a deal) I believe that every person should be able to have a say in the president if they choose, even if t's last second. However, when it comes to smaller elections, meaning primaries, local government, etc. that is when a person should be required to register to vote so there isn't any fowl play in a smaller venue like that. There still is a place for registration and there definitely is no place for mandatory voting. I just believe that the most important election of all should be open to the public to decide no matter what.

Overall, it is just sad that some people care so little they don't even bother to vote at all. Some people in the world would give just about anything to be able to have their voice count.

Correction to the earlier post. Silly auto-correct bites without warning. Nuts.

Why should you force people to vote? What if if they leave a blank ballot paper? Agree, it would be trans-formative but don't people have a choice? For instance, if I was forced to vote between Donald Trump and Ben Carson, I would leave the ballot paper empty because I don't prefer any of them.

That wouldn't be right to force people to vote, but I think people should. We should be grateful to have to right to vote as there is a lot more countries where they have no say. Everyone should but not everyone does.
