I beg to differ on the saturation part, from the reviews i've heard of...its rather a lucrative niche...but am speaking in the light of promoting the niche...not being in the niche itself...now that's a whole different ball game!

I am not sure what the dark stuff is, but my guess is that it would be illegal things. I would not do anything illegal no matter how desperate I was for money. It is just not worth it in the end. There are plenty of legal ways you can get money or things that you need.

The dark side beckons eh?.... such a dilemma

it is sounding like you have an opportunity to do some promotional work for red light sites, welp....to do or not to do....

Here is my opinion, and it is just that an opinion, opportunity is just that opportunity, whether we agree with it or not the web is loaded with all sorts of porn. It is loaded with it because there are equally people that want it. As an advertiser you have to have a certain degree of up standedness in so much as if you should decide to do this you are not driving traffic from children's sites or family orientated sites. There is a place for everything, as is there are people in this industry willing to buy and sell ad space. If you have real estate electronically that might value from this maybe you should do it. How can it be worse then any of the other crappy ads we are bombarded with? We all have to make a living. Just use some common sense and avoid the real niche fetish stuff. As far as darkness? shine a light in your own heart are you okay with it morally?

They say that port and the dark stuff sells, but it would not be worth my doing marketing for it. I would be too afraid of engaging in illegal activity, or getting myself into a boat that I would not want to be in. Food also sells really well, so can you get into food marketing somehow? People are always looking for new recipes and ways to use food.

That sounds spookily similar to something I sued to do years ago. I used to rent a few chat lines - it was my responsibility to advertise and promote them and would get a cut of the cost of the call. I never had to do any "chatting", just place a whole bunch of free ads. It worked out that I got a bigger cut of the money than the operator, so I know exactly what you mean when you talk about promoting the niche rather than actually being it!

Depending on the morality of the person, there are people who would turn that down.

I wouldn't actually, because there is a potential drawback with reputation in the future. Even if you try to be as anonymous as possible your history can still come back to haunt you many years down the line. It can be a good earner, but personally I wouldn't do it unless I was in desperate need of money.
