Famous celebrities making money from franchises

Many people automatically assume that franchisees struggled to make good money because the vast majority goes to the franchise company. There are obviously supply contracts and various literature and products which need to be bought from the parent company but many famous celebrities are making good money from franchises. So, which famous celebrities are making money from multiple franchises?

Shaquille O’Neal

The former NBA star is more than just an athlete living up to his quote at the NCAA annual convention in 2013. It was there that he told people when doing business with him they should see him has a businessman and not an athlete. So what has he done in his business career? He is rumoured to own 155 Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurants, 17 Auntie Anne’s Pretzels franchises as well as 40 24-Hour Fitness Clubs. If anybody sees him as “just an athlete” they need to think again!

Magic Johnson

Is it something to do with the NBA which seems to roll out more and more business people each year? Magic Johnson is one of the most successful black businessmen in the USA and his parent company Magic Johnson Enterprises owns 30 Burger King restaurants, 12 24-Hour Fitness Clubs and once owned 105 Starbucks which were sold back in 2010. Quite what he learned from the NBA which made him such a successful business person is anybody’s guess?

Chris Brown

Unfortunately Chris Brown’s personal life always overshadows his business life which has certainly been successful. Like so many franchise owners, he seems to have a taste for Burger King having revealed last year that he owns 14 franchises across the USA. If his personal life was a little calmer we can only guess how much more active he may be in his business career?

Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson is something of a Marmite figure in the USA having upset many people over the last couple of years. However, he is certainly a man of surprises and when attending a golf tournament in 2010 he went to a Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant six days in a row. This certainly got the attention of the press and then hey presto he revealed he had bought the rights for the company in Orange County, California. It is believed he as also attempted to buy other franchises but not all have been as successful.

Venus Williams

The Williams sisters were a double act on court but Venus Williams has gone on to make a very successful business from the Jamba Juice franchise. Apparently this all came about because the tennis superstar is a sufferer of Sjogren’s syndrome which is an autoimmune disease that affects energy levels. The story goes she was put onto a vegan diet and ultimately found Jamba Juice – she has open four franchises in the Washington DC area alone. Watch this space…..

These are just a small selection of prominent celebrities who have gone on to make a successful career from business franchises. They may well have been helped with their large profiles and large followings but at the end of the day they still need to make money. While many of them will give the impression that they have not planned for later life this is obviously not the case with these budding business entrepreneurs.
